4 M | F | LAB x

Say hello to Wonton! This cute little dumpling is a four-month-old red lab mix who came to MUTTS as a mill discard. She’s a super sweet and goofy girl who has been learning all about the comforts of home life with her fosters, and now she’s ready to find her very own family!

Despite being just a baby, Wonton is already showing signs of enjoying a low-key life! Now don’t get us wrong: she loves to engage in WWE puppy wrestling matches with her foster brother (a higher energy 9mo pup) and warp speed backyard chases, but the high energy play tires her out pretty quickly. Wonton is content to play on her own, often opting to grab a chew toy and hang in the same space as her human(s). Given her sweet temperament and tolerance, she’d be an amazing family pet and a great match for a family as the only dog, or with an older, lower energy dog. Wonton loves to be involved in everything her fosters are doing. Once she’s figured out that they are engaging in activities that do not, in fact, involve dogs, she’s content to lay down and keep them company. She loves hugs and head pats, both giving and receiving kisses, and lap snuggles.

Wonton has done very well meeting new people: she’s a little apprehensive at first but once she’s cautiously sniffed out the situation, she’s happy to accept pets and say hello! Wonton recently met a 10-year-old neighbour and quickly got over her initial shyness when she realized there were pets on offer. Her basic obedience is shaping nicely: she knows “sit” very well, and instinctively does this when her foster gets out treats, if she wants to go outside, or if she wants out of her crate. She knows “drop” for spitting stuff out and is pretty consistent with this command. Given her age, Wonton is deep into the teething phase and will put her little teeth on anything and everything (shoes, drawer pulls, baseboards, blankets, clothes, the couch … you name it). Her adoptive family will need to be alert to this phase and redirect her to toys or chews that she’s allowed to gnaw on. The good news is that she doesn’t put her teeth on people and isn’t mouthy at all given how much of a chewer she is!

Wonton has done a bit of leash walking – she is very calm and already shaping up to be a great walking partner! Her prey drive is average for her age … until she sees a bird, for which she has a hatred that runs deep in her veins. Otherwise, she is not leash reactive and is becoming more comfortable with the sights and sounds of neighbourhood strolls. Back at home, Wonton is still sorting out her feelings towards the crate. She fusses when she goes in, but she settles faster each time. She is crated when her fosters leave the house and will cry for a bit until she settles but is not otherwise destructive (foster tip: playing “calming dog music” tends to help!).

Little Wonton is 100% potty-trained and hasn’t had any accidents with her foster! When it’s time to go, she will sit at the door and wait. Wonton has been microchipped and received her first set of puppy shots. Her adoption fee will include her puppy series shots and spay at six months.

Wonton loves hanging with her people and can’t wait to meet her furever family!
