QUESTIONS

  • Yes! Fostering a dog is a great way to test the waters to see if pet ownership is for you. You get all of the love and companionship of having a dog without the financial responsibility or long-term commitment.

  • Yes, absolutely! Be sure to include those details in your application. We always take into consideration every living person and creature in your home before we place a dog with you. Please ensure that interactions are supervised in the home between any children and other pets.

  • Yes! Our foster families live in all kinds of dwellings. As long as you commit to providing adequate exercise to your dog, you can still become a foster.

  • While having access to a car is extremely helpful, it is not a mandatory requirement to foster. If you are able to arrange transportation on your own (e.g. borrow a car, etc.) that is preferred. If you do not have access to transportation we recommend speaking with the MUTTS Foster Team to see what resources might be available.

  • Unfortunately, no. Our vet is located in Mississauga where they will be seen for their vet appointments.

  • Yes, vetting is covered for dogs in foster. We only ask that our fosters take the dog to and from their appointments at our vet in Mississauga. Fosters are able to make appointments around their schedule.

  • Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee breeds of dogs. There is no true hypoallergenic breed, allergies are typically caused by dog saliva and dander.

  • In most cases yes, but there is always a period of adjustment where there may be accidents, and you need to be prepared for that. Your foster will need some time to decompress.

  • Yes! Fosters will have the opportunity to apply to adopt their dog. A decision to adopt will need to be made prior to receiving our Pupdate form at the 21 day mark. Our adoptions team will connect with you to discuss this decision in more detail.

  • No. Off-leash dog parks are strictly off limits, no matter what. Even if your dog is on-leash, we don’t know how other off-leash dogs will act around them. We want to ensure safety first which means avoiding off-leash parks all-together.

  • We highly recommend that you work on crate training your dog, as it’s an excellent way to keep them safe and to keep your home safe. However, every dog is different, and some dogs do better outside the crate than inside. Please work with your Foster Coordinator if you have any questions about crate training.

  • We are excited to get to know you better! Fill out a Foster Application and a member from our Foster Team will email you to connect further (be sure to check your spam folder!).
