LOUIS V.

  • Next up in our northern puppy series is Louis V! Born October 20, 2024, Louis is the brother of Celine. He was found along with his littermates, living under someone’s porch. All of the pups were underweight, feral and very scared. All four pups were rescued by our friends @manitobaanimalalliance. Louis has been thriving with this fosters and is more than ready to make himself at home with his adoptive family!

Louis V just learned about Valentine’s Day, and boy oh boy, was he PUMPED! Louis loves love – cuddles, kisses, snuggles, scritches, belly rubs, curling up in his fosters’ lap, being picked up and hugged … the list goes on! Now that he knows there is an entire day dedicated to his favourite activities, he’s even more excited that he might get to celebrate with his adoptive family! When he’s not lapping up the cuddles, Louis loves to play with his fosters’ dog. If she shows any signs that she’s had enough puppy time, Louis is quick to read the room and happily keeps himself entertained with toys. Meeting other dogs is another one of Louis’ favourite activities: he loves to say hi and his tail wags so hard, there is a slight concern that it may fly right off!

Louis V is being fostered outside of the city, and his fosters believe he’s much more of a country boy than a city slicker. He was very overwhelmed by the many vehicles whizzing by when he visited Southdown Animal Hospital for his first appointment. With the right exposure to city life, he could adapt, but he will definitely need a yard where he can burn off his energy! Louis has had a few introductions to leash walking and is showing great promise. He responds well to “sit,” “lay down,” and “paw,” and is working on “stay” and recall. Hot tip for his adoptive family: Louis is equally motivated by praise and treats! He is teething, and has taken a liking to chewing pretty much anything that he shouldn’t (cords, socks, shoes, toilet brushes, pillows). He’s very responsive to “off” and “leave it” but needs reminding! One of Louis’ sweetest traits is his love of water! He never wants bath time to end, and has been known to hop back into the tub. Rumour has it that he jumped into the shower and surprised his foster!

Louis is potty trained. He’s only had two accidents in the house, and will now wait quietly by the door to do his business, so a watchful eye is required since he doesn’t vocalize his potty needs. Louis is also crate trained! He sleeps peacefully overnight, has a quick potty break at 5am, and then back to sleep until 7am. He has a few dedicated crate breaks throughout the day, and often takes his treats and favourite toys to his crate on his own. Louis has received his first round of puppy series shots and is microchipped. His adoption fee will cover his remaining puppy shots and neuter at six months. He is being treated for Giardia (treatment costs will be covered by MUTTS).

Our little lover boy is hoping that his Valentine is out there waiting for him! …. “Be mine?”
