It’s time for our girl Indigo to shine! Indigo is a 10 month old mutt who came to us by way of a local shelter transfer, where she was found as a stray. At 62 pounds, she's a bit underweight, but her spirit is anything but! You may have caught her recent appearance on CP24’s “Take Me Home Tuesday” segment, where her friendly demeanor and eagerness to explore her surroundings was on full display! Sweet Indigo is looking for a family who is ready to help build her confidence and ensure she feels loved and safe!

Indigo is a delightful blend of caution and curiosity, always eager to be part of the action. She is very friendly and loves being around people, though she prefers to initiate contact on her own terms. She enjoys sniffing people and surroundings rather than receiving immediate pets. Once comfortable, she often appreciates gentle pets and readily returns the affection. Indigo is also social with other dogs and loves their company! She had a fantastic time playing for hours with a 1.5-year-old male dog in the backyard. When not actively playing, she is content to lounge and chew a bone alongside a dog buddy. She has not been tested with cats or kids, however we believe she would do well with older respectful children, as she might accidentally knock over smaller kids due to her size and excitement. She has not shown any level of aggression. In fact, she’s quite the opposite – once comfortable, Indigo loves giving out as many kisses and cuddles as she can!

Training remains an ongoing process for Indigo. She knows her name, will come when called, and can sit when she feels like it! She enjoys her daily walks, typically going on a long walk (30-40 minutes) every morning, with shorter walks throughout the day as needed. While she is great at walking in heel, she sometimes resorts back to zig-zagging and pulling. Indigo hates the crate and has demonstrated her ability to escape, causing some destruction in the process. She whines and barks when left alone or crated, so her adoptive family should be prepared to help Indigo overcome her separation anxiety. Indigo is also a big drinker … of water, that is! Learning to manage her water intake is crucial, as she drains her water bowl as soon as it’s filled and will seek out any available water source, including toilet bowls. As such, careful monitoring and frequent potty breaks are highly encouraged!

Indigo is full of endearing quirks and habits that make her special! She needs to know what’s going on and loves to be involved in everything, shadowing her humans' every move. She enjoys chewing on bones but is not overly interested in playing with toys. Despite her size, Indigo is fully convinced that she’s a lapdog, and loves to be in close contact with her humans at all times! As mentioned, she has a strong urge to drink any available water, necessitating careful monitoring. She also has a habit of licking everything – from table legs to pillows and ears! Indigo enjoys chasing birds and finds them quite fascinating, although she is shy and jumps at unknown or loud noises.

Indigo is spayed, microchipped, up to date with her vaccines, and potty trained. She is considered underweight (not emaciated by any means!), so it’s recommended that she does gain a few pounds.

With her unique quirks and loving nature, Indigo is sure to bring joy and warmth to her forever home! If your ideal weekend includes hanging out at home, basking in the backyard sunshine, and enjoying the company of a dog pal, Indigo is the girl for you!
