JUST A BABY | F | MANITOBA MUTT
MEDIUM ENERGY
GOOD WITH HUMANS, DOGS + CATS

Hey, Gertie! Little Gertie is just a baby who came to MUTTS as a stray from a remote community in northern Manitoba. She was found outside of a grocery store, without a collar, looking for food. She came down with Parvo on July 28 but her awesome fosters @manitobaanimalalliance caught it early and she was able to be treated as an outpatient. This little fighter is loving her new life in southern Ontario and hopes to meet her furever family soon!
During the first few weeks of Gertie’s time with her foster, she didn’t interact with any dogs, due to the standard puppy quarantine time. Initially, she was extremely nervous when she saw another dog in the distance, yelping and trying to run away, but has since become much less afraid. Now that she’s officially out of quarantine, she’s met a few dogs while on leash. She starts off a little scared but warms up very quickly, moving to submissive play, and then, once comfortable, her bossy side comes out! She would do well with a canine sibling, but she really loves her people, so she’d also be fine as the only dog. Gertie is currently being fostered with a cat and has taken a real liking to him! She is very gentle and knows to give the cat space, but she is eager to play and will do a bit of chasing (in a friendly way, of course!). When it comes to meeting new people, Gertie is a little nervous when strangers approach on the street but easily warms up to new friends at home. She loves to play with her fosters and with her toys, while also playing very well on her own.
Gertie is a medium energy girl who would do well with condo life. Though she loves to run around and often gets the zoomies, she’s generally calm and enjoys snuggling on the couch and receiving lots of belly rubs. Gertie currently goes on two hour-long walks per day, with outdoor trips every two hours or so. She’s still polishing up her potty-training skills and does rely on frequent bathroom breaks but is improving on the daily! Given that she’s still a puppy with lots to learn, she’s looking for a family who can commit to helping Gertie with her basic obedience training. Thankfully, she’s a pretty smart cookie who’s already shown a great aptitude for learning! Gertie is crate trained and absolutely loves her crate, often putting herself to bed. She has not shown any signs of separation anxiety and is an overall pretty stellar pup! She is prone to car sickness, though she tells us it’s not her fault – driving in the GTA can be tough for a puppy to stomach!
Gertie is microchipped and has had her first set of shots. Her adoption fee will include her puppy series shots and spay at six months. She is currently being treated for tapeworm – all costs associated with the treatment will be covered by MUTTS.
Gertie is ready to start her next great adventure and hopes to her perfect companions soon!
