Alright Lab lovers … have we got the girl for you! Aspen came to MUTTS as a shelter transfer after being found as a stray. The shelter environment was not ideal for Aspen and we knew we needed to get her into foster care ASAP. This sweet-as-chocolate lab has melted the hearts of everyone she’s met and she’s ready to spread the love with her new family!

Aspen’s favourite activity is going on a walk because it usually leads to her second favourite activity: meeting another human while on said walk! Aspen can’t resist saying hello to anyone she passes. Her tail starts rapidly wagging and she snuggles right in for pets. This is Aspen at her most playful, apart from when she’s hanging with her BFF, aka the neighbour’s silver Lab. Back home, she keeps a lower profile. Aspen is being fostered with three kids and is an absolute angel in their presence. She is easily overwhelmed when the kids become too rambunctious for her liking and will take refuge in the cushions or perch on the back of the couch like a cat. Aspen would do very well in a home with kids, so long as she has space to go when she needs a break!

Aspen is steadily coming out of her sweet chocolate shell each day! She prefers to hang on her own and does most of her exploring while her fosters are out or while the family is sleeping. She has started, on rare occasion, to lie at their feet while eating or cooking! Right now, she isn’t super comfortable being left alone, and has chewed a few things (pages of a book, a paper bag) in the absence of her fosters. Though she much prefers to curl up on the couch, she doesn’t resist her crate. Her fosters will crate her if they’re out for a few hours and she’s been fine! She’s a very quiet girl who reserves her voice for the occasional whine when it’s time for a walk. Aspen is fantastic on the leash! She keeps pace with her handler, walks comfortably in heel and responds perfectly to any corrections. As for basic commands, Aspen is unfamiliar with most – she came from Montreal, so it’s possible that she prefers to do her training en Français!

Aspen is potty trained, microchipped, spayed and up to date with her vaccines. She received a positive Giardia antigen test and is currently being treated. All associated costs will be covered by MUTTS.

There is no doubt in our minds that a secure home and loving family is all Aspen needs to continue to thrive!

QUIRKS: Because she is cautious, she does a slow tiptoe/army crawl towards you when she’s looking to cuddle!
