Life’s full of tough choices, but getting to know this little mermaid isn’t one of them! Ariel came to MUTTS as an owner surrender from Winnipeg. Born on November 30, 2023, Ariel is a serious love bug and curious about the world, with all its dinglehoppers and whatzits galore! It’s time for her to find her furever family!

True to her name, Ariel just wants to be where the people (and dogs!) are. As she is not yet fully vaccinated, she hasn’t had the chance to meet too many other dogs. With her foster brother and neighbouring dogs, she is playful and brave, always greeting with a wagging tail and listening to their cues to tone it down when her puppy energy gets to be too much. It’s evident just how much joy she has from a romp around the backyard with her besties when she leaps into full zoomies before crashing for a nap. Ariel eagerly greets all the humans she meets on her adventures, preferring to flop down and request belly rubs or encouraging them to “go on a kiss the girl” with lots of gentle kisses herself. As a surprise to no one, Ariel loves children as well. Whether it’s a group of neighbourhood children or pre-schoolers on a walk at recess, Ariel wants to greet and sniff them all. Ariel is not quite aware of her size and strength just yet so while very young children do giggle at her bouncy demeanour and loving puppy kisses, it’s important for her forever family to keep working on greeting kids in a calm manner to avoid bowling them right over.

As for her training, Ariel is whip smart! She has mastered basic commands like sit and stay and is working on her recall training like a pro. When Ariel arrived at her foster home, she was not a fan of her crate at all and would use her voice to let you know how much she disliked it. After just a few days, she has learned to love the cozy interior and will happily snooze in her crate overnight, especially after a good play session with her favourite toys. Potty training with Ariel has been a breeze as well. She had a few potty accidents when first arriving and learning where her favourite spot might be. Now Ariel will sit by the front door and whine to let her humans know to get on those legs and take her out!

While Ariel has access to all the gadgets and gizmos a plenty, her favourite toys are the simplest ones. Give this girl a stick, ball or bone and she will happily entertain herself for hours while her humans are doing their chores or making dinner. Though she has a great voice, Ariel chooses to use it sparingly for maximum impact. She will bark or whine to alert her humans that she is in need of something (water, food or a potty break) and will bark when she hears another dog outside. Besides that, she’s a quiet but brave girl taking in new experiences with a smile on her little puppy face. Ariel is microchipped and up to date with her vaccines. Her adoption fee will include her remaining puppy series shots and spay at six months.
